Essentially outplacement happens a new company has determined a desire to retrench a regarding employees, but rather than merely terminate their employment, with minimum redundancy payment as required by law, they recognise a certain responsibility towards those who will miss their jobs.
There are of course, many reasons for jobs becoming redundant (and outplacement advice in most jurisdictions, the law requires that it is jobs that are being lost) with the resulting retrenchment of the actual holders, if they cannot be redeployed within the boss. The company I am now working with a good outplacement assignment has sold one of its divisions to another company, along with the buyer does not want the employees.
In my view, and that numerous HR pros, a person have experienced retrenchment yourself, you won't be truly effective as the counsellor to an agent who has just been told they are losing their job. An ancient colleague once compared it to childbirth! She commented that unless you've given birth, you cannot possibly empathise! While somewhat extreme, I to help agree :-) All of our consultants involved in outplacement (me included) have all been retrenched at skill and have a psychology or counselling extent.
In some cases, your former company will pay to help make a change and use the firm of your choice, providing expense of is the aforementioned. Contact the human resources department, let them know you're unhappy with the agency, and that you would like to find a switch.
If the company won't allow of a swap, see if they'll contact the designated firm as part of your behalf, indicating that you are displeased. If enough individuals are dissatisfied with the service and make your former employer associated with it, that may be an impetus to contract with another agency. You won't know if ought to try.
As a last resort, you may opt to take up the tab for outplacement services that you are. It'll be money well spent if idleness you find achievable more quickly.
